August 28, 2025 — Ukraine’s Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) confirmed today a successful operation against a Russian Buyan-M class corvette, equipped with Kalibr missiles, in the Sea of Azov region.

According to the GUR, the action was carried out on two fronts: the special unit “Ghosts” disabled the ship’s radar through a drone strike; simultaneously, another GUR team directly attacked the vessel, hitting its hull.

The Russian corvette, which was positioned in an area potentially used for Kalibr missile launches, sustained enough damage to be forced to withdraw from its operational zone.

The operation temporarily reduced Russia’s ability to launch long-range strikes from that maritime route.

A video of the operation was published on Telegram, showing the moment of impact against the Russian vessel.

This attack represents a new step forward in Ukraine’s drone warfare, showcasing growing sophistication in joint operations between drones and special forces.

The coordinated use of drones to disable enemy radar systems, followed by direct strikes on the hull, demonstrates an increasingly effective strategy to neutralize Russian naval assets.

In addition, the Russian presence of Kalibr missile launch platforms in the Sea of Azov has been one of the greatest threats to Ukraine’s territorial security.

With this strike, Kyiv not only manages to neutralize an immediate danger but also sends a clear message about its ongoing capacity to respond — even through relatively inexpensive means, such as improvised drones, against Russia’s costly weaponry.
